2024-10-02readme: Clarify xdg-user-dirs-gtk dependencyCorey Berla
Nautilus has quasi-depended on xdg-user-dirs-gtk, but it has largely gone unnoticed. That is, until commit 5c2f55663ad ("placessidebar: Reorganize places"), which makes this dependency very obvious. Along with updating localization, xdg-user-dirs-gtk also creates the default bookmarks. Now that we are treating the XDG locations as regular bookmarks it's critical that the user has xdg-user-dirs-gtk installed to create the default bookmarks. Ideally, the dependency would be installed as part of the base install to ensure that it is executed before the bookmark file is created elsewhere, but that's out of our control.
2024-09-15contributing: Add a CONTRIBUTING.md fileCorey Berla
We had a little bit in the readme file. Add a separate file in order to expand more in this area, starting with how to develop on the file chooser.
2024-06-12general: React to tracker projects renameAntónio Fernandes
Tracker SPARQL is now TinySPARQL. Tracker Miners is now LocalSearch. The old DBus and library APIs still work so there is no rush there. But the executables and git repositories need to be updated now. https://discourse.gnome.org/t/renaming-tracker-git-and-tracker-sparql-git-and-changing-default-branch/21461

2024-01-31general: replace wiki linksPeter Eisenmann
The wiki is slowly getting deprecated. Replace all wiki links with their respective replacements. Only the translation project information still only resides on the wiki.

2021-01-12README: Clarify the status of the "nautilus" nameAntónio Fernandes
The proper name of the application is "Files". Don't use the project name when referring to the app. Also prefer the lowercase "nautilus", matching the project name with the program name. Fixes https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/nautilus/-/issues/1673

See #1673
2020-03-27README: Fix broken project badgesOndrej Holy
The pipeline status badge has a broken image and the coverage badge shows just "unknown". This is because the pipeline image has been renamed by GitLab and the coverage is not computed since the commit a5a405d. Let's fix the pipeline image filename and remove coverage badge as it is useless.
2020-03-08README: Omit easily-outdated version numberAntónio Fernandes
We consistently forget to update it when releasing. The intention was good, but this is hard to maintain.
