2026-02-05drm/xe/query: Fix topology query pointer advanceShuicheng Lin
The topology query helper advanced the user pointer by the size of the pointer, not the size of the structure. This can misalign the output blob and corrupt the following mask. Fix the increment to use sizeof(*topo). There is no issue currently, as sizeof(*topo) happens to be equal to sizeof(topo) on 64-bit systems (both evaluate to 8 bytes). 2025-12-04drm/xe/oa/uapi: Add gt_id to struct drm_xe_oa_unitAshutosh Dixit
gt_id was previously omitted from 'struct drm_xe_oa_unit' because it could be determine from hwe's attached to the OA unit. However, we now have OA units which don't have any hwe's attached to them. Hence add gt_id to 'struct drm_xe_oa_unit' in order to provide this needed information to userspace. 2025-12-04drm/xe/uapi: Add NO_COMPRESSION BO flag and query capabilitySanjay Yadav
Introduce DRM_XE_GEM_CREATE_FLAG_NO_COMPRESSION to let userspace opt out of CCS compression on a per-BO basis. When set, the driver maps this to XE_BO_FLAG_NO_COMPRESSION, skips CCS metadata allocation/clearing, and rejects compressed PAT indices at vm_bind. This avoids extra memory ops and manual CCS state handling for buffers. To allow userspace to detect at runtime whether the kernel supports this feature, add DRM_XE_QUERY_CONFIG_FLAG_HAS_NO_COMPRESSION_HINT and expose it via query_config() on Xe2+ platforms. 2025-09-24drm/xe/uapi: loosen used tracking restrictionMatthew Auld
Currently this is hidden behind perfmon_capable() since this is technically an info leak, given that this is a system wide metric. However the granularity reported here is always PAGE_SIZE aligned, which matches what the core kernel is already willing to expose to userspace if querying how many free RAM pages there are on the system, and that doesn't need any special privileges. In addition other drm drivers seem happy to expose this. The motivation here if with oneAPI where they want to use the system wide 'used' reporting here, so not the per-client fdinfo stats. This has also come up with some perf overlay applications wanting this information. 2025-09-09drm/xe: Never report L3 bank mask for media GT going forwardMatt Roper
We currently report an L3 bank mask as part of the GT topology on both GTs (primary and media) because a copy of the L3 bank fuse register exists on both GTs (e.g., $gsi_offset + 0x9130 on Xe3). After recent discussions it's come to light that the only known userspace software that uses this part of the uapi (the compute UMD and Mesa) only uses the value reported for the primary GT; the value reported for the media GT is ignored by both projects, and the media UMDs don't have any use for L3 information today. Since we always strive to have our uapi match the specific needs of userspace and not include additional unused baggage, let's officially drop L3 bank reporting on the media GT going forward and only keep it around for the primary GT where it actually gets used. This change will only apply to future platforms (Xe3 and later); even though it would probably be safe to remove it from Xe1/Xe2 as well, we don't want to take any chances with changing existing ABI. Note that we'd already disabled reading/reporting of the L3 bank for the media GT on PTL in commit 9ab440a9d042 ("drm/xe/ptl: L3bank mask is not available on the media GT") because it was discovered that the copy of the fuse registers on the media GT were just reporting a bogus ~0 value rather than an accurate mask. So this is just extending that PTL behavior forward to WCL and other future platforms. Note that we're also free to reinstate this part of the uapi in the future if/when some new userspace consumer emerges that _does_ have a use for media-specific L3 bank masks. 2025-07-02drm/xe/xe_query: Use separate iterator while filling GT listMatt Roper

2025-07-02drm/xe: Track maximum GTs per tile on a per-platform basisMatt Roper
Today all of our platforms fall into one of three cases: * Single tile platforms with a single (primary) GT * Single tile platforms with two GTs (primary + media) * Two-tile platforms with a single GT (primary) in each Our numbering of GTs has been a bit inconsistent between platforms (e.g., GT1 is the media GT on some platforms, but the second tile's primary GT on others). In the future we'll likely have platforms that are both multi-tile and multi-GT, which will make the situation more confusing. We could also wind up with more than just two types of GTs at some point in the future. Going forward we should standardize the way we assign uapi GT IDs to internal GT structures. Let's declare that for userspace GT ID n, GT[n]'s tile = n / (max gt per tile) GT[n]'s slot within tile = n % (max gt per tile) We don't want the GT numbering to change for any of our current platforms since the current IDs are part of our ABI contract with userspace so this means we should track the 'max gt per tile' value on a per-platform basis rather than just using a single value across the driver. Encode this into device descriptors in xe_pci.c and use the per-platform number for various checks in the code. Constant XE_MAX_GT_PER_TILE will remain just as the maximum across all platforms for easy of sizing array allocations. 2024-10-11drm/xe/query: Increase timestamp widthLucas De Marchi
Starting with Xe2 the timestamp is a full 64 bit counter, contrary to the 36 bit that was available before. Although 36 should be sufficient for any reasonable delta calculation (for Xe2, of about 30min), it's surprising to userspace to get something truncated. Also if the timestamp being compared to is coming from the GPU and the application is not careful enough to apply the width there, a delta calculation would be wrong. Extend it to full 64-bits starting with Xe2. v2: Expand width=64 to media gt, as it's just a wrong tagging in the spec - empirical tests show it goes beyond 36 bits and match the engines for the main gt Bspec: 60411 Cc: Szymon Morek <szymon.morek@intel.com> Reviewed-by: Matt Roper <matthew.d.roper@intel.com> Link: https://patchwork.freedesktop.org/patch/msgid/20241011035618.1057602-1-lucas.demarchi@intel.com Signed-off-by: Lucas De Marchi <lucas.demarchi@intel.com>
2024-10-08drm/xe/ptl: L3bank mask is not available on the media GTShekhar Chauhan
On PTL platforms with media version 30.00, the fuse registers for reporting L3 bank availability to the GT just read out as ~0 and do not provide proper values. Xe does not use the L3 bank mask for anything internally; it only passes the mask through to userspace via the GT topology query. Since we don't have any way to get the real L3 bank mask, we don't want to pass garbage to userspace. Passing a zeroed mask or a copy of the primary GT's L3 bank mask would also be inaccurate and likely to cause confusion for userspace. The best approach is to simply not include L3 in the list of masks returned by the topology query in cases where we aren't able to provide a meaningful value. This won't change the behavior for any existing platforms (where we can always obtain L3 masks successfully for all GTs), it will only prevent us from mis-reporting bad information on upcoming platform(s). There's a good chance this will become a formal workaround in the future, but for now we don't have a lineage number so "no_media_l3" is used in place of a lineage as the OOB workaround descriptor. v2: - Re-calculate query size to properly match data returned. 2024-07-18drm/xe/uapi: Expose SIMD16 EU mask in topology queryLucas De Marchi
PVC, Xe2 and later platforms have 16-wide EUs. We were implicitly reporting for PVC the number of 16-wide EUs without giving userspace any hint that they were different than for other platforms. Xe2 and later also have 16-wide, but in those cases the reported number would correspond to the 8-wide count. 2024-03-20drm/xe: Always check force_wake_get return codeDaniele Ceraolo Spurio
A force_wake_get failure means that the HW might not be awake for the access we're doing; this can lead to an immediate error or it can be a more subtle problem (e.g. a register read might return an incorrect value that is still valid, leading the driver to make a wrong choice instead of flagging an error). We avoid an error from the force_wake function because callers might handle or tolerate the error, but this only works if all callers are checking the error code. The majority already do, but a few are not. These are mainly falling into 3 categories, which are each handled differently: 1) error capture: in this case we want to continue the capture, but we log an info message in dmesg to notify the user that the capture might have incorrect data. 2) ioctl: in this case we return a -EIO error to userspace 3) unabortable actions: these are scenarios where we can't simply abort and retry and so it's better to just try it anyway because there is a chance the HW is awake even with the failure. In this case we throw a warning so we know there was a forcewake problem if something fails down the line. v2: use gt_WARN_ON where appropriate Signed-off-by: Daniele Ceraolo Spurio <daniele.ceraolospurio@intel.com> Cc: Tejas Upadhyay <tejas.upadhyay@intel.com> Reviewed-by: Matt Roper <matthew.d.roper@intel.com> Reviewed-by: Tejas Upadhyay <tejas.upadhyay@intel.com> Link: https://patchwork.freedesktop.org/patch/msgid/20240318154924.3453513-1-daniele.ceraolospurio@intel.com
2024-03-12drm/xe/uapi: Add IP version and stepping to GT list queryMatt Roper
For modern platforms (MTL and later), both kernel and userspace drivers are expected to apply GT programming and workarounds based on the IP version and stepping self-reported by the GT hardware via the GMD_ID registers. Since userspace drivers can't access these registers directly, pass along the version and stepping information via the GT list query. Note that the new query fields will remain 0's when running on pre-GMD_ID platforms. Userspace is expected to continue using PCI devid / revid on those older platforms. Although the hardware also has a GMD_ID register for display version/stepping, that value is intentionally *not* included anywhere in the Xe uapi. Display userspace should be using platform-agnostic APIs and auto-detecting platform capabilities rather than matching specific IP versions. v2: - s/revid/rev/ (Lucas) - Fix kerneldoc copy/paste mistakes Signed-off-by: Matt Roper <matthew.d.roper@intel.com> Reviewed-by: Lucas De Marchi <lucas.demarchi@intel.com> Link: https://patchwork.freedesktop.org/patch/msgid/20240312211229.2871288-4-matthew.d.roper@intel.com
