On x86, arch_dest_reloc_offset() hardcodes the addend adjustment to
four, but the actual adjustment depends on the relocation type. Fix
that.

find_symbol_hole_containing() fails to find a symbol hole (aka stripped
weak symbol) if its section has no symbols before the hole. This breaks
weak symbol detection if -ffunction-sections is enabled.
Fix that by allowing the interval tree to contain section symbols, which
are always at offset zero for a given section.
Fixes a bunch of (-ffunction-sections) warnings like:

The following commit
5da6aea375cd ("objtool: Fix find_{symbol,func}_containing()")
fixed the issue where overlapping symbols weren't getting sorted
properly in the symbol tree. Therefore the workaround to skip adding
empty symbols from the following commit
a2e38dffcd93 ("objtool: Don't add empty symbols to the rbtree")
is no longer needed.

Up to a certain point in objtool's execution, all errors are fatal and
return -1. When propagating such errors, just return -1 directly
instead of trying to propagate the original return code. This helps
make the code more compact and the behavior more explicit.

The free(sym) call in the read_symbols() error path is fundamentally
broken: 'sym' doesn't point to any allocated block. If triggered,
things would go from bad to worse.
Remove the free() and simplify the error paths. Freeing memory isn't
necessary here anyway, these are fatal errors which lead to an immediate
exit().

In the rare case of overlapping symbols, find_symbol_containing() just
returns the first one it finds. Make it slightly less arbitrary by
returning the smallest symbol with size > 0.

The objtool command line 'objtool --hacks=jump_label foo.o' on its own
should be expected to rewrite jump labels to NOPs. This means the
add_special_section_alts() code path needs to run when only this option
is provided.
This is mainly relevant in certain debugging situations, but could
potentially also fix kernel builds in which objtool is run with
--hacks=jump_label but without --orc, --stackval, --uaccess, or
--hacks=noinstr.

The tools version of fixdep has broken dependencies. It doesn't get
rebuilt if the host compiler or headers change.
Build fixdep with the tools kbuild infrastructure, so fixdep runs on
itself. Due to the recursive dependency, its dependency file is
incomplete the very first time it gets built. In that case build it a
second time to achieve fixdep inception.

For x86_64 the kernel consistently uses 2 instructions for all NOPs:

0f 1f /0 - NOPL
Notably:
- REP NOP is PAUSE, not a NOP instruction.
- 0f {0c...0f} is reserved space,
except for 0f 0d /1, which is PREFETCHW, not a NOP.
- 0f {19,1c...1f} is reserved space,
except for 0f 1f /0, which is NOPL.

In preparation for hierarchical schedulers, change scx_bpf_dsq_insert() and
scx_bpf_dsq_insert_vtime() to return bool instead of void. With
sub-schedulers, there will be no reliable way to guarantee a task is still
owned by the sub-scheduler at insertion time (e.g., the task may have been
migrated to another scheduler). The bool return value will enable
sub-schedulers to detect and gracefully handle insertion failures.
For the root scheduler, insertion failures will continue to trigger scheduler
abort via scx_error(), so existing code doesn't need to check the return
value. Backward compatibility is maintained through compat wrappers.
Also update scx_bpf_dsq_move() documentation to clarify that it can return
false for sub-schedulers when @dsq_id points to a disallowed local DSQ.

scx_bpf_dsq_insert_vtime() and scx_bpf_select_cpu_and() currently have 5
parameters. An upcoming change will add aux__prog parameter which will exceed
BPF's 5 argument limit.
Prepare by adding new kfuncs __scx_bpf_dsq_insert_vtime() and
__scx_bpf_select_cpu_and() that take args structs. The existing kfuncs are
kept as compatibility wrappers. BPF programs use inline wrappers that detect
kernel API version via bpf_core_type_exists() and use the new struct-based
kfuncs when available, falling back to compat kfuncs otherwise. This allows
BPF programs to work with both old and new kernels.

With the planned hierarchical scheduler support, sub-schedulers will need to
be verified for authority before being allowed to modify task->scx.slice and
task->scx.dsq_vtime. Add scx_bpf_task_set_slice() and
scx_bpf_task_set_dsq_vtime() which will perform the necessary permission
checks.
Root schedulers can still directly write to these fields, so this doesn't
affect existing schedulers.

That cpuinfo_x86.x86_capability[] element was supposed to mirror CPUID flags
from CPUID_0x80000007_EBX but that leaf has still to this day only three bits
defined in it. So move those bits to scattered.c and free the capability
element for synthetic flags.
No functional changes.

The userspace-visible encoding for CNTV_CVAL_EL0 and CNTVCNT_EL0
have been swapped for as long as usersapce has had access to the
registers. This is documented in arch/arm64/include/uapi/asm/kvm.h.
Despite that, the get_reg_list test has unhelpful comments indicating
the wrong register for the encoding.
Replace this with definitions exposed in the include file, and
a comment explaining again the brokenness.

vgic_lpi_stress rather hilariously leaves IRQs disabled for the duration
of the test. While the ITS translation of MSIs happens regardless of
this, for completeness the guest should actually handle the LPIs.

vcpus array contains pointers to struct kvm_vcpu {}. It is way overkill
to allocate the array with (nr_cpus * sizeof(struct kvm_vcpu)). Fix the

The KVM_IRQFD ioctl fails if no irqchip is present in-kernel, which
isn't too surprising as there's not much KVM can do for an IRQ if it
cannot resolve a destination.
As written the irqfd_test assumes that a 'default' VM created in
selftests has an in-kernel irqchip created implicitly. That may be the
case on x86 but it isn't necessarily true on other architectures.
Add an arch predicate indicating if 'default' VMs get an irqchip and
make the irqfd_test depend on it. Work around arm64 VGIC initialization
requirements by using vm_create_with_one_vcpu(), ignoring the created
vCPU as it isn't used for the test.

Store the width of arm64's timer counter as an "int", not a "uint64_t".
ilog2() returns an "int", and more importantly using what is an "unsigned
long" under the hood makes clang unhappy due to a type mismatch when

A defect against the architecture now allows an implementation to treat
AMO as 1 when HCR_EL2.{E2H, TGE} = {1, 0}. KVM now takes advantage of
this interpretation to address a quality of emulation issue w.r.t.
SError injection.
Add a corresponding test case and expect a pending SError to be taken.

The bperf BPF counter code doesn't handle "any"(-1) CPU events, always
wanting to aggregate a count against a CPU, which avoids the need for
atomics so let's not change that. Force evsels used for BPF counters
to require a CPU when not in system-wide mode so that the "any"(-1)
value isn't used during map propagation and evsel's CPU map matches
that of the PMU.

Testing clang features doesn't specify a "-o" option so an a.out file
is created and left in the make directory (not the output). Fix this
by specifying a "-o" of "/dev/null". Reorganize the code a little to
help with readability.

If an event shows as "<not supported>" in perf stat output, in verbose
mode add the strerror output to help diagnose the issue.
Consider:

To understand why the data_read uncore event failed you can run it
again with -v option. This change adds detailed message about the
error and suggestion how to fix it potentially.
Warning:
data_read:u event is not supported by the kernel.
Invalid event (data_read:u) in per-thread mode, enable system wide with '-a'.

Add a guest_memfd testcase to verify that faulting in private memory gets
a SIGBUS. For now, test only the case where memory is private by default
since KVM doesn't yet support in-place conversion.
Deliberately run the CoW test with and without INIT_SHARED set as KVM
should disallow MAP_PRIVATE regardless of whether the memory itself is
private from a CoCo perspective.

Extract the guest_memfd test's SIGBUS handling functionality into a common
TEST_EXPECT_SIGBUS() macro in anticipation of adding more SIGBUS testcases.
Eating a SIGBUS isn't terrible difficult, but it requires a non-trivial
amount of boilerplate code, and using a macro allows selftests to print
out the exact action that failed to generate a SIGBUS without the developer
needing to remember to add a useful error message.
Explicitly mark the SIGBUS handler as "used", as gcc-14 at least likes to
discard the function before linking.
Opportunistically use TEST_FAIL(...) instead of TEST_ASSERT(false, ...),
and fix the write path of the guest_memfd test to use the local "val"
instead of hardcoding the literal value a second time.

a significant amount of boilerplate code, to ensure all tests assert on

If a VM type supports KVM_CAP_GUEST_MEMFD_MMAP, the guest_memfd test will
run all test cases with GUEST_MEMFD_FLAG_MMAP set. This leaves the code
path for creating a non-mmap()-able guest_memfd on a VM that supports
mappable guest memfds untested.
Refactor the test to run the main test suite with a given set of flags.
Then, for VM types that support the mappable capability, invoke the test
suite twice: once with no flags, and once with GUEST_MEMFD_FLAG_MMAP
set.
This ensures both creation paths are properly exercised on capable VMs.
Run test_guest_memfd_flags() only once per VM type since it depends only
on the set of valid/supported flags, i.e. iterating over an arbitrary set
of flags is both unnecessary and wrong.

Refactor the guest_memfd selftest to improve test isolation by creating a
a new guest_memfd for each testcase. Currently, the test reuses a single
guest_memfd instance for all testcases, and thus creates dependencies
between tests, e.g. not truncating folios from the guest_memfd instance
at the end of a test could lead to unexpected results (see the PUNCH_HOLE
purging that needs to done by in-flight the NUMA testcases[1]).
Invoke each test via a macro wrapper to create and close a guest_memfd
to cut down on the boilerplate copy+paste needed to create a test.

Use a global variable to track the host page size in the guest_memfd test
so that the information doesn't need to be constantly passed around. The
state is purely a reflection of the underlying system, i.e. can't be set
by the test and is constant for a given invocation of the test, and thus
explicitly passing the host page size to individual testcases adds no
value, e.g. doesn't allow testing different combinations.
Making page_size a global will simplify an upcoming change to create a new
guest_memfd instance per testcase.
No functional change intended.
